Privacy Policy — Math Buddies: Wilderness Trail

Effective August 21, 2026

Math Buddies is made by Austin Amento, an independent developer. This policy explains exactly what the app does and does not do with information. It is written for parents and guardians, so it avoids legal shorthand wherever plain words will do.

The short version: Math Buddies has no accounts, no ads, and no third-party tracking. Everything your child does in the app stays on your device. The only information that ever leaves the device is what is needed to process and verify a purchase.

What stays on your device

When your child sets up the app, Math Buddies saves the following to the device's own private app storage:

  • The first name or nickname they type in
  • The grade they chose to start at
  • The animal companion they picked
  • Progress: XP, stars, streaks, badges, completed lessons, game bests, and pace setting

This information is never uploaded, never synced, and never sent to us. We cannot see it. It is not backed up to any server we control. If you use iCloud device backups, the data is included in your own Apple backup under your own Apple account, governed by Apple's privacy policy rather than ours.

No account, login, email address, or phone number is required to use Math Buddies.

What we do not collect

Math Buddies does not:

  • Ask for or store an email address, phone number, home address, or date of birth
  • Show advertising of any kind
  • Include any analytics, attribution, or behavioural-tracking software
  • Track your activity across other apps or websites, or request App Tracking Transparency permission
  • Request access to the camera, microphone, photo library, contacts, location, health data, or calendar
  • Contain chat, messaging, comments, social features, or any way for your child to communicate with other people
  • Contain links out to the web or to social media
  • Sell, rent, or share personal information with anyone, because it does not collect any

Purchases

The first unit of every grade is free. Unlocking the rest of the trail requires a purchase made by a grown-up. Math Buddies offers a one-time lifetime unlock and a monthly subscription. A parental gate — a question a young child is unlikely to answer — appears before any purchase screen and before the App Store subscription manager opens.

Two companies are involved in a purchase:

Apple. All payments are processed by Apple through the App Store. We never see or receive your card number, billing address, or Apple Account details. Apple's handling of that information is covered by Apple's Privacy Policy.

RevenueCat. We use RevenueCat to check whether a purchase is active, so the app knows whether to unlock the later units. When the app first runs, it generates a random anonymous identifier — a string like $RCAnonymousID: followed by random characters — and sends that to RevenueCat along with the purchase or subscription status, the app version, the operating system version, and the store country. This identifier is created by the app; it is not your Apple Account, your device's advertising identifier, or anything that names a person. Your child's name, grade, and progress are never sent to RevenueCat. See RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.

App updates

Math Buddies checks for app updates using Expo Application Services. That check sends the platform and the app's runtime version so the correct update can be served. It does not send anything about your child or their progress. See Expo's Privacy Policy.

Read-aloud

Math Buddies can read questions out loud. This uses the speech voice already built into your device, and it works with the screen reader too. The text being read is handled by the device itself and is not sent to us or to any other company.

Children's privacy

Math Buddies is designed for children, including children under 13. In keeping with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and similar laws elsewhere:

  • We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
  • The name your child enters is a nickname of their choosing, stored only on the device, and never transmitted to us or anyone else.
  • There is no advertising, no behavioral profiling, and no third-party tracking.
  • There is no way for a child to contact a stranger, publish anything, or leave the app for the open web.

Because no personal information reaches us, there is nothing for us to disclose, correct, or delete on request. Everything is under your control on the device, as described below.

Deleting your data

You can erase everything the app has stored at any time, without contacting us:

  • In the app: tap Reset all progress at the bottom of the Trail Register home screen and confirm. This permanently erases the learner's name, grade, companion, XP, stars, streaks, badges, game bests, and pace setting from the device.
  • Delete the app: removing Math Buddies removes its stored data with it.

A purchase is tied to your Apple Account rather than to the app's stored data, so resetting progress or reinstalling does not cost you your unlock. Use Restore purchases on the unlock screen to bring it back. To cancel a subscription or request a refund, use your Apple Account's subscription settings — we cannot do either on your behalf.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with an updated effective date. Material changes affecting how information is handled will be reflected in the app's App Store listing as well.
