Math Buddies is made by Austin Amento, an independent developer. This policy explains exactly what the app does and does not do with information. It is written for parents and guardians, so it avoids legal shorthand wherever plain words will do.
The short version: Math Buddies has no ads and no third-party tracking. Kids do not create accounts. The iPhone and iPad app keeps the learner's name and progress on the device. The website at mathbuddies.app can optionally save that progress to a parent email, so a family can keep playing on another computer. A limited amount of technical and purchase-status information is sent to the services described below so the app can verify entitlements and deliver updates.
What the app stores about the learner
When your child sets up Math Buddies, it saves:
- The first name or nickname they type in
- The grade they chose to start at
- The animal companion they picked, including any outfits they unlock
- Progress: XP, stars, streaks, badges, completed lessons, game bests, pinecones, and pace setting
On iPhone and iPad (and Android, when that store is available): this stays in the app's private storage on that device. It is never uploaded to us. If you use iCloud or Google device backups, it is included in your backup under your store account.
On the web, without signing in: the same information stays in that browser only. Clearing the site data erases it.
On the web, with a parent account: a grown-up can save that same learner information to their parent email so it can be opened on another browser. Kids are never asked for an email address.
What we do not collect
Math Buddies does not:
- Ask a child for an email address, phone number, home address, or date of birth
- Require a parent account on iPhone or iPad
- Show advertising of any kind
- Include any analytics, attribution, or behavioural-tracking software
- Track your activity across other apps or websites, or request App Tracking Transparency permission
- Request access to the camera, microphone, photo library, contacts, location, health data, or calendar
- Contain chat, messaging, comments, social features, or any way for your child to communicate with other people
- Contain chat, social, or user-generated links out to the web. The parent-facing purchase screen does include links to this policy, Apple's standard terms, and the relevant purchase-management destination.
- Sell or rent personal information. We do not share it except with the processors named below, and only to run sign-in, purchases, and app updates.
Purchases
The first unit of every grade is free. Unlocking the rest of the trail requires a purchase made by a grown-up. Math Buddies offers a one-time lifetime unlock and a monthly subscription. A parental gate — a question a young child is unlikely to answer — appears before any purchase screen and before a platform subscription manager opens. Legal links remain available on the purchase screen so a grown-up can review them before buying.
Apple (iPhone and iPad). Payments are processed by Apple through the App Store. We never see your card number, billing address, or Apple Account details. See Apple's Privacy Policy.
Google Play (Android). When the Android store offering is enabled, payments are processed by Google Play. We do not receive card details or a Google Account password. See Google's Privacy Policy.
Web checkout. Purchases in the browser use RevenueCat Billing, which connects to Stripe. We do not receive card details. A parent account is required before a web purchase so the unlock can follow that email instead of this browser only. See Stripe's Privacy Center.
RevenueCat. We use RevenueCat to check whether a purchase is active. On iPhone and iPad the app generates a random anonymous identifier (a string like $RCAnonymousID: followed by random characters). On the web, after a parent signs in, RevenueCat receives a stable opaque ID derived from the parent account, not the email address itself. RevenueCat also receives purchase or subscription status, the app version, the operating system version, and the store country. Your child's name, grade, and answers are never sent to RevenueCat. An App Store purchase and a web purchase do not automatically unlock each other.
Parent accounts (website only)
A grown-up can sign in at mathbuddies.app with a one-time link sent to their email. This is not a child account.
If a parent signs in, we store:
- The parent email address
- Sign-in session information
- The learner profile and progress listed above, tied to that parent account
Convex is the database that holds the parent account, session, and progress document.
Resend sends the sign-in email and therefore receives the parent email address. See Resend's Privacy Policy.
Signing out on a shared computer returns that browser to unsigned local play and does not leave the signed-in family's progress on screen.
The iPhone and iPad app does not offer parent accounts and does not send learner progress to Convex or Resend.
App updates
Math Buddies checks for app updates using Expo Application Services. That check sends the platform and the app's runtime version so the correct update can be served. It does not send anything about your child or their progress. See Expo's Privacy Policy.
Read-aloud
Math Buddies can read questions out loud. This uses the speech voice already built into your device, and it works with the screen reader too. The text being read is handled by the device itself and is not sent to us or to any other company.
Children's privacy
Math Buddies is designed for children, including children under 13. In keeping with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and similar laws elsewhere:
- We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
- The name your child enters is a nickname of their choosing. On iPhone and iPad it stays on the device. On the web it is stored with a parent account only if a grown-up signs in.
- There is no advertising, no behavioural profiling, and no third-party tracking.
- There is no way for a child to contact a stranger or publish anything. The only web destinations are the legal and purchase-management links described above.
Deleting your data
On the device (every platform): tap Reset all progress at the bottom of the Trail Register home screen and confirm. This erases the learner's name, grade, companion, outfits, pinecones, XP, stars, streaks, badges, game bests, and pace setting from that device or browser. Deleting the app also removes its local data.
Parent account (website only): use Delete parent account on the parent account panel. That removes the stored progress document and the parent login from our cloud database. You can also email thesoloquestgame@gmail.com and ask us to delete it.
An App Store or Play purchase is tied to that store account, not to local app data, so resetting progress or reinstalling does not cost you the unlock. Use Restore purchases on the iPhone or iPad unlock screen to bring it back. A web purchase follows the parent account after sign-in. To cancel a subscription or request a refund, use the relevant store or Stripe/RevenueCat checkout settings — we cannot do either on your behalf.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with an updated effective date. Material changes affecting how information is handled will be reflected in the app's App Store listing as well.
