Crazy Thoughts: Would U Rather ("the App") is developed as a family-friendly game designed for children, parents, and party groups of all ages. We take privacy seriously, especially when it comes to children and families.
1. Children's Privacy (including COPPA) & Family Safety
- Information you provide: The App does not require an account and does not ask you to provide names, email addresses, phone numbers, precise location, photos, or voice recordings. The developer does not use the App to build a profile about you.
- Advertising and Google AdMob: Free players may optionally watch a rewarded video to temporarily unlock a bonus theme deck. The App may also show occasional full-screen interstitial ads during play. These ads are provided by Google AdMob. Ad requests are configured for child-directed and under-age-of-consent treatment, non-personalized advertising, and a maximum content rating of
G. The ads are contextual and are not based on a behavioral profile maintained by the developer. - AdMob technical and delivery data: Google may process information needed to deliver, measure, secure, and improve ads, including an IP address or coarse location inferred from it, device or app signals, ad impressions and interactions, diagnostics, performance information, and fraud-prevention signals. Child-directed and non-personalized settings are intended to prevent interest-based advertising and limit identifier use, but they do not mean that an ad request contains no technical data. We do not receive or store these AdMob signals as an account or user profile. See Google's Privacy Policy for Google's handling and retention practices.
- Child-Safe Parental Gates: All in-app purchase triggers are protected behind a math-challenge Parental Gate to prevent accidental purchases by children.
2. Local Data Storage & Offline Play
- Game State & Favorites: Your choice history, favorite starred cards, streak records, trophies, and custom-created family cards are stored locally on your device using local sandboxed storage (
AsyncStorage). - This personal game data stays on your device and is deleted if you uninstall the App.
2a. Anonymous Gameplay Vote Counts
- When a player picks an option on a dilemma card, the App increments an anonymous, aggregate counter (e.g. "Option A: +1") stored in a Google Firestore database operated by the developer.
- For the vote-counter request, the payload contains only the card identifier and the selected option needed to increment the aggregate counter. It contains no name, account, advertising identifier, or user profile and is separate from the network requests made by Google AdMob.
- The vote counters are used by the developer to understand which dilemmas are popular in aggregate. The percentages shown inside the App are generated on your device and are not read back from this database.
- As with any internet request, your device's IP address is necessarily visible to Google as the hosting provider in order to deliver the request. The App does not read, store, or use IP addresses, and they are not retained in the vote records.
- This practice is disclosed in the App Store privacy questionnaire as Usage Data — not linked to identity, not used for tracking.
3. In-App Purchases & Store Billing
- The App offers an optional one-time purchase: the Family Forever VIP Pass.
- All transactions are processed directly and securely through the Apple App Store (StoreKit) on iOS and Google Play (Play Billing) on Android. No third-party billing or receipt-processing service is used.
- We do not have access to your credit card or financial information.
- Apple Family Sharing is supported so all members of your family group can share the purchase.
4. Data Retention, Deletion, and Third Parties
- Game state, favorites, streaks, trophies, and custom cards are stored locally and are deleted when you uninstall the App.
- Aggregate vote counters do not identify an individual user and may be retained to show community results. Because they are not tied to an account, we cannot locate an individual vote for deletion.
- Google AdMob handles the advertising data described above under Google's privacy terms. Apple and Google handle purchase records under their own platform terms. We do not sell or rent personal information.
